Description Sparkles of colour shine through in this solid Queensland sandstone matrix opal from our mine near Quilpie in western Queensland. Sandstone matrix is associated with pipe opal and in its raw state the opal is not always visible in the sandstone. Some material needs to be carbonised (blackened) using natural products to bring out the colour. This material is then stabilised with polymer resin to maintain strength and durability. Pictures show front and back of the stone. Opal has a 3mm hole through and placed on 2.5mm black leather. Size: Stone size is 42mm x 38mm
